| The U.G.R.L.A.
was established in 1979, largely
on the initiative of the University
of Glamorgan Accommodation Services, not only to provide high quality student accommodation to students in and around the Pontypridd, Treforest and general University of Glamorgan area; but also
to provide a focal point for the
exchange of ideas and information
between the Accommodation office
and Private Sector Landlords to
their mutual benefit. It is due
to this mutually beneficial relationship
that we are allowed to use the
Name of the University in our
title. Our relationship has enabled
the accommodation office to provide
an effective point of contact
between student and landlords
and the landlords to provide accommodation
of an appropriate standard for
students in and around the Glamorgan area..
Only landlords whose properties
are registered with the University
are eligible to join the Association
and a prerequisite of registration
at the University is that the
properties are registered with
the local Authority Environmental
Services and Trading Standards
Departments. This ensures that
all properties advertised by
our members either at the accommodation
office or on this website meet
the minimum standards of safety
and facilities for tenants.
However it is our aim to improve
on these minimum standards and
by self regulation and education
to provide superior quality
accommodation. The Association
has developed further since
its inception as a consultative
body representing the interests
of landlords.
The association arranges meetings
for members about three times
a year at which speakers are
invited to address to members
on subjects relevant to the
letting business. Further information
relevant to regulation and good
standards in rented accommodation
is disseminated to members by
the officers of the association
as and when it becomes available.
This enables members to gain
the knowledge and expertise
to manage their properties professionally
and successfully .
The association is run by an
elected committee whose officers
provide their services on a
voluntary basis. The association
is therefore non- profit making
although the individual members
have their own businesses interests
at heart. Members are however
required to pay a nominal annual
membership fee to cover costs
of administration.
The U.G.R.L.A. is not a letting
agency.
